A top lawyer for President Donald Trump’s campaign, who has been under fire for a series of past statements about the meeting with Russia’s lawyer during the presidential campaign, told CNN on Monday that there is no “secret” meeting between the president and the Russian lawyer.
The lawyer, Alan Futerfas, said that Trump is not aware of any secret meeting between his campaign and the Russians.
“He has no recollection of it.
I have no recollection at all,” Futerfordas told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer.
He hasn’t talked to any members of the Russian government about it.” “
There is no secret meeting.
He hasn’t talked to any members of the Russian government about it.”
FuterFas, who is also the president of the law firm BakerHostetler, has been a frequent surrogate for Trump and has spoken at Trump rallies.
The president has also used Futer Fakas as a surrogate.
During the 2016 presidential campaign and since he became president, Trump has called Futerfs a “very good guy.”
The president also has defended Futersons comments to the New York Times in August.
The Times reported that Trump asked Futers during a meeting with Trump Jr. whether he would accept a meeting invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“It was kind of a long-winded way of saying, ‘Do you think we could do something together?
Are you willing to take the meeting?'”
Trump Jr., who attended the meeting at Trump Tower in New York City, said he accepted the invitation.
The meeting occurred during the campaign and was not a part of any campaign foreign policy discussions.
Futeris’ comments come amid an ongoing probe into whether Trump obstructed justice by firing FBI Director James Comey in May.
Trump has denied any obstruction of justice.
He has said that he has “absolute” confidence that Comey is doing a good job and that he believes he was fired for the wrong reasons.
In the interview with CNN, Futeras also defended Trump’s claim that Comey was fired to protect himself and that Comey had “great loyalty.”
The White House said that the president had not spoken to Comey since he was sworn in.
“The president has no personal knowledge of the contents of any private discussions he had with the former FBI director,” White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said in a statement on Sunday.
“No one from the White House has ever met with or discussed this with him.
The Whitehouse is focused on the administration’s agenda and is not commenting further.”
Trump Jr.’s comments came after he released emails that appear to show he had repeated conversations with a Russian lawyer who claimed to have damaging information on Hillary Clinton.
In response to a question from The Washington Post on Friday, Trump Jr said that during the 2016 campaign he was told that Russian President Vladamir Putin had “dirt” on Clinton and that the information was “very damaging.”
Fusun said in his CNN interview that the emails were “very, very similar” to the information that Trump Jr had discussed during the 2015 meeting in Trump Tower.
The emails released Friday also included information about an upcoming meeting with a Kremlin-linked Russian lawyer that was held in the spring of 2016.
CNN’s Jim Acosta asked Fuson about the timing of Trump Jrs email to his father on the subject of Russia and the Magnitsky Act.
“Why do you think he emailed his father in the summer of 2016 and not before the summer, or at the earliest?”
“What does the president know about it?
How much do you have to do with that?
Why didn’t he speak up before that?”
Futeros lawyer responded that he was not in a position to comment on the timing or content of Trumps email, but that he did not know the content of the information.
Trump Jr is scheduled to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Monday about his meetings with the Russian attorney.
The committee is expected to hold a hearing on Tuesday.
The New York attorney general, Eric Schneiderman, also is scheduled on Monday to speak about the Trump administration’s response to the Russia investigation.
The Senate Judiciary committee has been investigating allegations that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia to interfere with the 2016 election.
Trump’s response in the Russia probe has been to push back against the committee’s investigations, telling reporters at the Whitehouse on Saturday that he believed the probes were “political” and that Democrats were trying to make him look bad.
