Motorcycle and pedestrian collisions are an increasing problem across the country.
The number of collisions with cars and other vehicles has grown exponentially in recent years, and now more than 300,000 people die in crashes each year, according to the National Safety Council.
There are no official statistics on motorcycle and pedestrians accidents, but many people say it’s a very real and increasing threat.
In fact, one of the most common ways people are injured is by being struck by a motorcycle or a pedestrian.
In 2017, an estimated 50,000 bicyclists were killed in collisions with vehicles and pedestrians, according a study released last year by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
According to the study, the rate of motorcycle fatalities in the U.S. has nearly tripled since 2000, from less than 1 in every 10,000 crashes to nearly 1 in 5,000.
While the number of fatalities on American roads has dropped since 2016, the number injured in motor vehicle crashes has increased, with more than 1,400 injuries in 2017 alone.
It’s a growing problem, said attorney David McKeon, who has worked in the motorcycle and automobile industry for more than 30 years.
McKeown, who teaches a motorcycle accident law class at the University of South Florida, said he’s noticed a trend of law enforcement officers getting more aggressive in trying to stop motorcycle and other vehicle crashes.
He said officers are now targeting motorcycle riders in an aggressive way, even when they’re on foot or in the car.
“They are targeting them with the utmost level of force,” McKeons told ABC News.
“I’m not going to get into that, but they are aggressively pursuing and attempting to stop them.”
A motorcycle crash lawyer is someone who represents victims of motorcycle and/or pedestrian crashes.
In many states, a motorcycle crash attorney can represent all kinds of victims, including people injured in car accidents or motorcycle crashes.
“The person who is representing these people is the one who is at risk,” McLeod said.
“And it’s not the person riding on the bike or riding on a horse or riding in a motorcycle.
So, I would argue that that person is the victim.”
Lawyer David McLeod says that a lawyer is usually a police officer who is looking for a crash.
He told ABCNews.com that the law has changed over the years and now, he sees a lot more police officers trying to pursue a person riding in their vehicle.
“When I was a lawyer, I didn’t see it that way,” McLean said.
The majority of motorcycle crashes happen in states where police officers are not required to wear body cameras.
