In August, the lawyer who was appointed by a BJP MLA to represent him in a defamation case was offered a salary of Rs.50 lakh by a law firm which retained his services.
The lawyer, who is also the son of the BJP MLA, was informed about the offer at a party function.
He had to decline the offer.
“It is a matter of confidentiality.
I have not signed any papers with them.
I am a lawyer and am not going to sign any papers,” the lawyer said.
The offer came as the case was pending before the Karnataka High Court.
The lawyer has filed a petition challenging the High Court order and has sought a stay on the judgment.
The BJP MLA had filed a defamation complaint against him on October 25.
The court ordered the suspension of his salary pending the outcome of the case.
He has not yet filed a reply to the court.
